This past weekend, Brent and I went to Fayetteville for the Arkansas/LSU game.
We had so much fun! First of all, I hadn’t been to a game since the year before last. For the past five or so years, we’ve gone less and less due to numerous reasons. Mainly because we don’t live there anymore. The bigger deal was that we were playing LSU. We hadn’t been to an Arkansas vs LSU game maybe since we went to school there. They typically play Thanksgiving week, which doesn’t work with our holiday traveling schedule. We usually watch on TV.
So, it’s probably no secret that Arkansas hasn’t had the best winning streak. Not in the SEC anyway. It was the first SEC win since 2012. Yep, two years and 17 games. That’s a little rough when you are in the SEC. It’s definitely a better team and program this year, but they didn’t really show all they were capable of until Saturday.
Let me tell you, had we not have been in a box, I probably would have thrown in the towel before the game even started. It was so, so, so sooooo cold. Really cold. I felt like my toes and nose were completely frozen and going to fall off. Somehow we managed to tailgate for an hour before, too. I’m probably being a wimp, though, since we are just coming off warm weather, but still 🙂
So, Brent actually got to ride in with Tusk, the real Razorback. It was through a contest that Academy Sports store did. We love Academy. He was over the moon excited about doing it. He just stood on the top of the truck trailer thing with all the cheerleaders. He kind of looked like a deer in headlights, but said it was amazing seeing the field and riding in like that!
We, along with a few friends, were able to go in the Frank Broyles center, which is in the stadium and so nice. We hadn’t ever been in it. I think it was added maybe in 2000 when they did a renovation. There is a pic below where you can see the field from behind the glass windows. They had food prepared for us and we got to go on the field before the team came out and then headed up to the box right before the game started. It was a fun experience!
It was an exciting game and I’m pretty certain most of Arkansas agrees it was worth the $25,000 they were charged for storming the field. No one will ever know what it’s like to be an Arkansas fan, and be at a game with that team spirit, unless it happens to you 🙂 No, I didn’t storm the field, but I loved watching. No, no one was hurt. Well, not that I’ve heard of at least. Arkansas has only rushed the football field two other times, once in 1981 and last in 1999. LSU has been our biggest rival since at least right around the time I started school there in 2002, maybe ealier. So when you’ve not won your past 17 past SEC games and then you beat your rival with a shutout (which hasn’t happened against LSU since 1947) and win a boot, THE boot, you’re on top of the world and your fans are beyond thrilled, clearly 🙂
That’s about as much sports talk as I’ve ever done on this blog, ha! Oh, and though it’s kind of hard to tell in the picture, we did sit by Jerry Jones during the game. His box is next to us, so yes, there was glass in between us, ha! We don’t actually know the lady who took the picture of us, but she asked for my number and texted it to me, which was pretty funny.
My pano pics don’t really look as good on the blog and I can’t get them wider because of the column restrictions 🙁
We love and miss Fayetteville. While we were there, we spent time with some friends and ate delicious food, of course 🙂
