I’ve had a weird skin situation since I was eleven years old. Thankfully, now that I know I have Celiac Disease, it is pretty much gone. You have no idea how much I truly mean it when I say, I wish I would have known sooner.
I’ve been so paranoid about Knox & Sloane having skin issues because I know how unfortunate it can be. I will say I’m very grateful I’ve never had any face/acne skin issues, and I know at their age, that won’t really be an issue.
Knox did have a bad rash for several months from about 8 months old until a year. Thankfully it passed. I’ve had some testing done on him, and as for Celiac, right now; it doesn’t appear as though he has it or the genes that are indicators. I still need to have Sloane tested, which I plan to do soon. I try not to feed them too much gluten in general as I’ve lived through the skin misery it’s caused me.
I do think Sloane does have some eczema, which hopefully isn’t the result of any issues. She had a patch in between her shoulder blades for the longest time that she would scratch at. Now, she has some that come and go here and there, and then on the back of her arms a few bumpy patches.
I will say that heat in general seem to make us all a bit more itchy. I also think summer brings sometimes crazy high temperatures and dry skin from swimming and the sun. I feel like every time I’m outside, I come in itching on my legs. Not to mention that bugs love me, argh.
For the most part, I’ve found what works well for the kiddos, but I still bounce around a bit. I just don’t want to have dry, scratched up looking legs all summer. I feel like after we swim, I need to get something on my body pretty quickly as saltwater and chlorine both are pretty harsh on my skin. I’d much rather have a tool that helps my skin rather than not to go swimming! What fun is that!? : /
I do try to focus on fragrance free, though lately I’ve been reading about the smell of some natural oils being good bug repellant.
I recently got a bottle of Curél® Itch Defense® Lotion and I hope a small dab here and there will give my skin a little balance to stay itch free and moisturized. I’ve learned with me, a little goes a long way so I don’t have a layer lotion.
Curél® Itch Defense® Lotion has received the National Eczema Association Seal of AcceptanceTM, so that’s promising as far as trying to tackle eczema.
It’s also fragrance-free, Dermatologist, Allergist and Pediatrician tested and can be found at drugstores nationwide.
So, the search of my favorite new lotion/s begins 🙂
Now, for a chance to win a $100 VISA gift card, leave a comment telling me how you beat summer skin irritation 🙂
