****If you did not see my previous post about the missing kids, please read and share!****
Yay for my first Q & A! I thought it was fun! I guess maybe I’ll do one every 6 months or so. Of course you can always ask in a normal post 🙂
I’m doing two parts so the post isn’t so long! If I have time later, I’ll get to the rest and post! 🙂
Erin Knight August 6, 2013 at 12:52 PM What happened to Elton? I’m going to a separate post on this 🙂
Sarah August 6, 2013 at 1:04 PM How is Elton doing these days? Hopefully he is spunky and happy wherever he is! He is doing great! He’s still full of energy and very happy 🙂
Elle August 6, 2013 at 1:21 PM Hi Megan! First of all, will you vlog this post? I love to put a voice to the text! Also, how did y’all choose the twins’ names? I love them! I have yet to do a vlog! I will soon, though! 🙂 As for the twins’ names, here are two posts on them http://www.inthiswonderfullife.com/2011/04/names.html http://www.inthiswonderfullife.com/2012/07/naming-game.html
Eileen August 6, 2013 at 1:28 PM how is your pcos now? I am currently pregnant with my first and have PCOS. I keep wondering what I will have to do after baby boy comes in a few weeks. We want to try for another almost right away. My PCOS is doing okay, I believe. I’m due for a check soon. I’ve been taking Metformin since around my Celiac diagnosis, so that really helps PCOS for me. If you breastfeed, I don’t think the cysts come back during that period. I know all doctors’ opinions vary, but from what I’ve learned, the quicker you can get on birth control, the better. It helps keep the PCOS dormant, but like I said, if you breastfeed for a bit, that might as well, then once you stop, you could do the birth control then even. Both times I got pregnant, I had just finished a round of birth control, which was set up that way after having cysts.
World of Waxes August 6, 2013 at 1:34 PM Hi Megan. I love your blog posts. Your family is adorable. Do you ever miss working? Will you go back to work when the twins are a little older? Aw, thanks so much! 🙂 I do miss working outside the home! This mom thing is harder than any of I’ve had, though, haha! I’m currently kind of looking for something I can do from home because I do enjoy the work interaction. If I do go back when the kids are older, and our finances allow, I won’t settle for just anything. I want my attitude and mood to be as best as possible in the home so I don’t want to do anything outside the home to alter that.
Stori Wann August 6, 2013 at 1:37 PM This is not personal but I love the color of your kitchen/playroom walls. What color is it? Thanks! It’s Wool Skein by Sherwin-Williams. I darkened it a bit for the smaller living area (currently the playroom) and lightened it for the rest of the house. The trim is Panda White. The cabinets in the kitchen are also Panda White, but have a colored glaze on them for an antiqued look.
Jen Watts August 6, 2013 at 2:13 PM Makeup must haves?? Yours is always flawless! Love you girl. aw, you are sweet! xo I’m thinking I will do a post on this. I always like a little powder and blush. I’ve grown up with so many freckles, and although they are much lighter these days, I still like a little more even skin tone and rosy cheeks 🙂
Stacy Kinard August 6, 2013 at 2:26 PM When will (if you’re planning to) try for number 4? No plans for #4. We feel like we are complete 🙂 ….minus Cohen not being here, of course 🙁
Sassy Amie August 6, 2013 at 2:30 PM Do you miss working outside the home? I have no children yet, but I wonder how I would feel about this! I do miss working outside the home some. I miss people interaction, but thank goodness for social media, right? I really am a home body. I really, really liked my previous job, though, and I didn’t have to sit in an office. I visited with people all around town and basically made my schedule and worked out of my car. It was very nice and rewarding!
Jenny August 6, 2013 at 2:32 PM 1- what is your hair routine? it ALWAYS looks so amazing! 2- do you work out and if so, how do you fit it in your busy day? love your blog !! Thanks so much, Jenny! I have very thick and coarse hair. Unless I have a busy week and am outside quite a bit, I really only have to wash it about once a week. I usually do it on Wednesday or Thursday nights. If I do two nights a week, Sunday and Thursday. It does best when I sleep on it soon after I dry it, so evenings are ideal. Sleeping on it helps flatten it out and requires less flat ironing the rest of the week. I also have naturally curly hair, so I blow dry it straight. Every now and then, I won’t dry it, and honestly over the years, I don’t think it’s quite as curly as it use to be. I use a round brush to dry it and then I flat iron it. I use Moroccanoil products, but I don’t have to use too much.
Tara August 6, 2013 at 3:01 PM What would you say is the most challenging thing about raising twins? Or is there anything that you struggle with when it comes to dividing your attention or discipline or things like that? Hmmmm, this is tough. I think it’s a bit tough taking them places by myself…at this age anyway. Having them in a stroller is fine, but like a playdate is difficult because it’s not our surroundings and they are curious and running every which way. So I can’t chase after both of them…or even always keep my eyes on both of them. I know kids will be kids, and Sloane really is pretty chill and likes me in sight, so that helps. I took them to the doctor the other day without having in them in their stroller. It was the first time and it was great. It was just me with them and we had no problems at all. We parked, walked up to a tall building, did the elevator and they minded me and held hands. So I think challenging things will change all the time! I always said they were a piece of cake until they started crawling. Once they are mobile, things change! Their comprehension level is the same so teaching two at the same time is different than having an older one that understand and a young one, ya know?
We do pretty good with dividing attention. We do one on one quite a bit and Brent likes to take them to Target on his own so he has time with just them. He takes them on walks when he gets home from work fairly often. Brent is such a great daddy.Often times if one wakes up early, we will bring them down and just hang with them.
For discipline, we started with “timeout” a few months ago. Basically, they go to the corner of the playroom. They don’t like it at all, but if we tell them something more than a few times, and they don’t obey, we tell them they will go to timeout if they don’t change their action. Now, often times, if they don’t mind after we ask them something twice, we can ask them if they want to go to timeout and they say no, and stop doing what we ask.
Jessica @ Better Together and Forever August 6, 2013 at 3:18 PM Hi Megan! I was just wondering, how do you find the time in the day to blog with having twins running all over the place. 🙂 Hello 🙂 Knox & Sloane have always been great sleepers. Sometimes their naps vary, but they still have rest time during the day even if it’s a short period. They can sing and dance or do whatever from their cribs. Night sleep is 7pm-7am. So this actually gives me quite a bit of time. I enjoy doing it early in the mornings, but I’m not always the greatest at waking up all too early ; )
The Simmons Family August 6, 2013 at 3:20 PM Oh yes.. VLOG time! 🙂 I want a tour of your house. It’s adorable and southern and I’d love it if you just took us on a little VLOG tour with the twins. Just a fun idea. Thank you! I do want to vlog! I thought about doing it for this, but every time I have sat down, I get up to do something! I figured I had better get my answers up. I will do one soon, but not sure on what?! haha As for the house, I will do a tour…at some points. It’s kind of a work in progress, but we’ve come a long way! Here are the before pictures – http://www.inthiswonderfullife.com/2011/12/around-house-before.html
McWilliams Family Blog August 6, 2013 at 4:21 PM What does your husband do for a living? Brent is in sales. He always has been. He is definitely a people person! Without sharing his exact company and specifics, he sells mostly to oil & gas companies. Lots of that here in Oklahoma!
Jordyn August 6, 2013 at 4:46 PM Let’s talk baby names! How did you come up with Cohen, Knox and Sloane? Is there any future names that you have in mind right now? Any you have discarded? We aren’t planning anymore babies to name 😉 Here is a post I did on their names – http://www.inthiswonderfullife.com/2012/07/naming-game.html
I do think boy names are harder. We went traditional, with a family name for Knox and then something unique for the middle which he goes by. His first name is James. Sloane’s middle name, Rose is also a family name.
Molly August 6, 2013 at 6:49 PM Are you planning to have anymore children? Hi Molly, we are not planning to. We’ve decided we are probably best man-on-man and not full court press 🙂
Frannie Uitto August 6, 2013 at 8:33 PM How do you handle tantrums and bad toddler behavior(ie. hitting, biting, screaming, sharing-or lack there of- getting upset at the word “no”, etc)? Hi Frannie! If you read the above questions, timeout has worked pretty well for us. I will say I think they are getting a little bit of “terrible twos” in their reactions. I honestly think it’s patience. I’m trying to work with them on it. It’s like they want their milk when they want it and if they don’t get it they whine or pretend like they are crying, but they aren’t. Knox is quicker to get upset. They do mind well, so they snap out of it pretty quick. We’ve not had any hitting, biting or screaming. We are working on sharing and patience. If they say no, we always quickly respond with, “you don’t tell mommy or daddy no, okay?” Getting them to say “okay” has been key for us. If they do it again, then we threaten with timeout.
Heather August 6, 2013 at 9:16 PM what is your husbands occupation? Are both mother in laws involved in the Childrens lives? Love your blog! Brent’s occupation answer is above and yes both mother-in-laws are in their lives 🙂 We live just down the road from where Brent grew up. His mom now lives in Seattle, but we see her fairly often. Brent’s dad has had the same girlfriend since Brent was young, so Knox & Sloane get to see her, too! My parents moved to Oklahoma, from Texas, when I was pregnant with Cohen. They just live a few miles away, so Knox & Sloane see lots of them.
Megan August 6, 2013 at 9:21 PM How do you style your hair & what’s your daily routine like? 🙂 Hi Megan! I think I will do a post on my daily routine soon! I’m making a list that will involve a little more than just an answer 🙂 Maybe I’ll do pics, too! As for my hair, I answered a question above about it. I basically just brush and flat iron as for styling. It’s been a bit easier with it being short!
“B”August 7, 2013 at 6:26 AM All of my initial questions have been asked (How is Elton? Will you have more children? if so, when?) Do you plan on sending Knox and Sloane to traditional school, or something untraditional such as montessori or home schooling? Your family is so precious!
Thanks so much! 🙂
– Elton is great! I’ll post on him soon!
– We aren’t planning to have anymore kiddos. Our hearts and hands are full 😉
– I know we won’t do home schooling. We are debating on montessori as we have some family members that do it. We also have some that do private with more religion in the school.
Rosa August 7, 2013 at 8:01 AM What is your daily routine like? I’m going to do a post on this soon! 🙂
