I'm that mommy who celebrates everyday of their life because I can't help myself. I've said goodbye to a baby and everyday with the ones I have here is truly a celebration. Don't get me wrong, these last two weeks have been rough. Knox has been miserable. It's been stressful and hectic. I've been stressed that I can't fix his little skin. But we've gotten through it and I know all these tougher moments are all part of the package and make the sweet ones even sweeter
Luckily, he woke up this morning with his skin looking much better. We've been working on his food intake. I also stopped nursing him this week. I'm still nursing Sloane and she has no issues.
I still owe you all a breastfeeding post, but I decided to see if my milk has having any affect on his skin. It's hard to say if for certain it was, but he switched to Alimentum with no issues. A few other reasons I decided the end was near on breastfeeding....... they are getting big! I've been nursing both at the same time and it was getting tricky. Not to mention, they wanted to swat at each other and push and they were just distracting one another and not eating. My hormones also started flowing, if you will, and I think it's adjusted my production some.
I'm going o try to take some nine month pictures tomorrow.
They are crawling like crazy. Also, getting very fast.
They are pulling up in their crib and on the couch as well.
They are eating pretty good, but I'm feeling a little stump on what to give them. They don't want to be feed much anymore and with Knox's skin, we feel like some foods are triggering flares. He had an allergy to bananas on the blood test, but they can't test for everything. They've had bananas, avocados, toast, annie's spaghetti o's, watermelon, puffs, mum mums and we are about to do potatoes. I'm really close to just setting anything down and letting them try it, but still a bit paranoid, too. As for fruits and veggies (as well as all the purees we've done), I'm sticking to organic.
We are between Honest & Pampers as for diapers. I had a stockpile of Pampers so we are using them, mostly at night. Knox tinkles more being on steroids. I still go back and forth on cloth diapering. I want to do it but I've been putting it off and they've been keeping me busy enough with other things.
They both do patty cake and Sloane is waving hi and bye. Knox is starting to wave. It's super cute :)
Knox has FIVE teeth. Sloane still has two but is working on a few more.
Mostly in 6-9 month clothing.
Starting to transition into the bigger stroller seats. We will probably wait on the bigger car seats until closer to a year.
Still napping twice a day, but Knox has had a harder time these past two weeks, poor little buddy. It's just hard for him to stay comfortable for long, especially if he gets warm.
Knox is weighing a little over 17lbs and our Guess is Sloane is a little over 18. We always feel like she is more, but the past few times they've gone in together, she has always been pretty close. They go back in for a WCC in June.
They are so fun! Sloane is SO laid back and Knox is notsomuch. I take that back, he can be, but lately, with his steroids and such, he's been pretty irritable and wants to be held.
This video melts my heart. I took it a nights ago. I was folding laundry on the bed and they were playing with Brent. It was close to their bedtime. It's really their first time they interacted for this long with each other, just giggling away! It's a bit dark, so hard to see Knox's hilarious smile with all his little teefies.
Have a good Saturday!

My Emma had severe allergy issues when she was around Knox's age. After weeks of trying to figure out what caused it we finally realized that she was having a reaction to the laundry soap/fabric softener we were using on our clothes (I washed her clothes Free & Clear but I used Era on mine and my husbands clothes) and the Era would irritate her. We also figured out that if someone wore perfume or cologne it would irritate her. She would break out just like Knox.
ReplyDeleteI know how rough it is and I am sorry. I hope you get it figured out soon.
Hey lady! They are just the cutest! I love little Knox's face in that video. He will spend so many of his years watching his loud sister do funny things! :) How much fun to watch them grow up together! :) Have a great weekend! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI had to cut dairy while breastfeeding my son. It was tough, but I managed. I was so sad when we decided to switch to formula. Though, if it's what's best for the baby, how can you argue?
ReplyDeleteHey Girl!! My little one has severe allergies. We have been dealing with it since she was 2 wks old. It affects her gut and her skin. I have a few suggestions. My email is ross-lindsey@att.net Hope you get some answers soon for Knox. They are just precious.
ReplyDeleteLindsey
It sounds like they're doing great! Hopefully his skin issue continues to improve...poor baby!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is just a few days older than Knox and Sloane. I almost cried when I realized how close we were to her first birthday!
My little girl had an allergy to wheat and peanuts. Her poor little cheeks would be so red and rashy, along with her legs, arms and back. I was breastfeeding as well, when I changed my diet to gluten/peanut free it REALLY helped! The best lotion I have found for soothing her skin is psoriasis moisturizer for eczema I buy at a local health food store, made from plant extracts. We have tried so many lotions, creams, prescription ointments and this beats them all. They also make a eczema wash which we use, it is amazing for her. Here is the store site, maybe you can order online. http://www.foodforthoughtwichita.com/#!natural-beauty
ReplyDeleteYou asked about food for the babes and just an fyi on the allergy front: my 2 kids with sensitive skin would/do break out when they ate something made of tomatoes. Like spaghettios or spaghetti...the would not get hives but their skin would just break out in redness wherever the tomato touched their skin. They aren't allergic to tomatoes though it's just that tomatoes are so acidic so it would break out their skin. Just a thought :) One more thing to maybe stay away from?
ReplyDeletethe video is precious! Isn't it sweet how they will always be best friends!?
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe these adorable angels are 9 months old!! Wow! What a blessing they are and thanks for sharing their journey!!
ReplyDeleteMegan,
ReplyDeleteWe've never lost a child who was "born" but we have many angels...and we have always celebrated our living children's days. There is no milestone too little for celebration. Today, we celebrated our oldest child's 12th birthday. The days go bye too fast. Keep celebrating each day.
Please don't think impelling you what to do..but the acidity from tomatoes in the spaghettis could cause skin irritation. Bno guarantees but our wee ones have had sensitive skin, too...our youngest was like Knox. So hard. Diapers did such horrible things to her skin. Hugs.
Way to go on the nursing of twins for so long.
Growing so big! Try chicken and try, it is always our go to meal and I freeze it for Harper and just thaw out enough for a meal. So easy, not much in it and healthy for them. We have even thrown in peas and broccoli.
ReplyDeleteWay to go on nursing for so long!
Hey Megan :)
ReplyDeleteA few things-
I think it's awesome that you still nurse tandem! I can only imagine nursing two babies! I was worried I wouldn't be able to nurse Brynley this long but she's doing great so I plan to as long as I can. Teeth are not fun and she but me a few times and smiled afterwards!!
With my first, I was so cautious (choking and allergies) but its near impossible for Brynley not to mosey her way to Ryder eating snacks and she's like on the prowl for food! It's the funniest thing! So we give her pretty much everything and if she spits up or seems gassy I don't offer it again for a few days or longer. Just trust your judgement and you will be amazed at the things they're ready to eat!
I blend whatever we eat for dinner usually.
The video was precious and they cracked me up! I love that they play together now. 7,8,9 months are the best! Before they are really walking and getting into everything! Brynley already discovered stairs, our dogs food dishes, the toilet, and unrolling toilet paper! Eeek!
and it gets worse. Much worse haha!
Laura
awww cute video! I loved it when you told Knox no jumping on the bed. :) I thought that was so cute. I think it's so cool that they have each other!
ReplyDeleteAt my grandson's 6 month checkup we were told not to give him any wheat products until he was a year. Along with eggs, citrus, peanut butter and honey. Which means no puffs, so sad. But something to think about. My daughter had terrible food allergies at this same stage in her life. It was terribly frustrating. Hope you figure it out soon. Elaine

ReplyDeleteGood for you for doing whatever is best for you family!!!
ReplyDeleteBreastfeeding is such a hot topic, and while I managed (blessedly!!) to breasfeed my twins for 13 months, I FIRMLY believe what babies need more than anything is a happy Momma who does whatever is best for the WHOLE family!!!!! You keep making whatever choices work for you and your sweet babies =).
Hope you guys get Knox's skin issues figured out soon - it's SO hard to see your babies miserable!!
They are so sweet. Watching them interact is one of the most precious things ever.
ReplyDeleteI hope y'all get Knox's skin issues resolved soon. It's so frustrating to not know what is and isn't triggering it. Praying for y'all.
Hi Megan,
ReplyDeleteHere's something about car seats that I've noticed alot of you American's don't realize. When you switch to the bigger car seat, they are meant to be rear facing until the child reaches the weight limit for rear facing. I noticed on all these mama's blogs that they turn their babies forward facing when switching to the convertible seat and this is maybe legal, but not recommended by both the Canadian and American governments.
The reason is that they are 5 times more likely to die in the event of an accident if they are forward facing compared to rear facing.
I hope your blogging friends see my comment and do a little research on recommendations (the US has new ones!). And it would be wonderful if you did a post about these recommendations as well because I don't think people choose to give their babies and less safe installation, i think it's lack of knowledge.
My son is rear facing still at 2.5 years!
Courtney
I need to see them in action! (crawling) I bet they are so cute!
