So, I’ve gotten LOTS of comments, emails & tweets about why the babes are always “nakey”…if you will. Meaning, why are they mostly in their diapers.
Good question! Here is my answer 🙂 I’m not sure if it was the fact that they are summer babies or what, but they came out hot! Not sure if they are just a lot like their momma, though, because she is pretty hot natured herself. From the time we got them home, especially Knox, started getting moist and even sweaty with clothes and blankets on. Since we decided to go with swaddling, that meant they were to have clothes on and be wrapped in a somewhat durable blanket. When we unwrapped them, we just felt awful for how warm and “wet” their little bodies felt. I asked our doctor and he said totally normal. He said we could just keep the air down and don’t dress them in many clothes. Laura, from Moms On Call, told me the same. She said just a diaper in the swaddle is perfectly fine.
Since they nap on a schedule during the day, we swaddle and un-swaddle quite a bit. Therefore, when they are awake to eat & play, for usually about an hour to an hour and a half, I don’t dress them only to undress them again for their swaddle and nap. Make sense? As soon as I wake them or they wake, they are so ready to eat, there is no time to get clothes on. Then, after they eat, they are only up for about 30 more minutes. I’ll put a blanket or something on them if we are just sitting around. If they are doing tummy time, they are moving and not cold at all.We dress them if we are going out out of the house or just hanging around through a nap time cuddling.
Once we are done swaddling, at probably 10-14 weeks, the clothes will resume 🙂
I also liked the remarks remembering all the cute clothes I had gotten them. They will still get to wear pretty much all of them 🙂 I didn’t get a lot of the little things, which ended up being a good thing now.
So, here they are this morning. This is after morning nap, after eating and after tummy time. So, needless to say, they were getting a bit tired and not to end to holding up head or giving smiles. THey looked pretty pooped. Still, however, very very cute. The gowns you may remember from when I shared their names with you all for the first time here.
