4th of July! ~ Wings for Our Troops

Happy Independence Day :)

I hope you all are having a nice holiday weekend and being thankful for independence. We have so many soldiers who work so hard for our freedom so we should definitely be thankful to them.

A while back I was contacted about a foundation called "Wings for Our Troops" that was just starting. I thought I would post for people to read about it. The goal of the foundation is to raise funds that will help soldiers come home to visit family pre and post deployment. From what I've gathered, some of the men & women fighting for our country do have to pay for their own flights. So, when they find out they are being deployed, many want to come see their families before hand. Well, a lot cannot afford to do so. Unfortunately, if they can't see their family at this time, some may never see them again. The reality is, some are killed in action.

This  foundation was thought of and created by a family whose son was able to come home before his deployment. However, he was killed in action. When he was getting ready to come home for his last visit of 11 days, he shared with his family that he had a buddy trying to get home to visit his family before his deployment, but could not afford the flights home. This family offered to cover his costs, but he would not accept with knowledge of who was providing.

This foundation, will hopefully be able to provide some financial assistance to troops trying to get home to their families. It will also try to utilize frequent flyer miles.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this. It makes me sad that the men and women who serve our country cannot afford to make it home to their families. Hopefully, this will help.

  2. Thank you for posting this. My dear cousin was KIA in Iraq. The last time I saw him was during Christmas... I never would have thought that would have been our last conversation. I think about him non-stop, but the Holidays are especially difficult.

Thank you, God Bless You <3

  3. My brother just came home for pre-deployment. He had to cover all of his costs to come home and is stationed in Germany. It is VERY expensive. Thankfully, he has the means to pay for a ticket to fly but many don't. Thank you for sharing this wonderful organization!

  4. Thank you for posting this. I'm a military girlfriend and deployments are hard enough without worrying if you can afford to see your family before you leave. This seems like a wonderful organization, thanks again for the info!

  6. Thanks for sharing! My husband is in the Air Force and it just struck me that most probably don't realize that mid-tour leave, pre & post-deployment leave are expenses paid for by the airmen & soldiers. Such a sweet foundation. A lot of Christmas & birthday gifts are spent asking our parents for help getting one of us to or from a deployment location or overseas station- this year it will be South Korea. This foundation sounds wonderful!
