For a while now Brent and I have been talking about trying to intake amd use “cleaner” things. For the most part, I’ve changed up a lot of houseold items at toiletries to more natural products. So far that is going good.
We thought for the new year, we would really aim to watch our food intake. The hardest part is having to eat quickly and/or not having a stocked fridge. I’m REALLY not a meat person. I could live happily with no meat in my life. The only reason I still ocassionaly eat it is I have to watch my carb intake. I do like cheese and other dairy products though. To me, “extreme clean” means not processed and not a lot of additives.. Well, unless it’s super fresh, and probably a fruit or veggie (or a fish/meat non-packaged, I guess?), it’s going to be processed in some way.
I’ve actually done pretty well for the past few years cutting down the processed things I eat. In Decemeber, Brent randomly brought up that he wanted to get better at watching the things he puts into his body and/or uses. When cooking, I think it’s typically easier to eat fresh. I didn’t cook all too much in pregnancy and from April until September, we were without all our kitchen gear (as our living situation was im limbo.)
It’s hard to determine the quality of the food you are getting when you eat out as it’s probably been preserved in some form or fashion. We’ve done a lot of eating out in the past year. I think that will slow down some, but clearly not all together.
Our most recent grocery store trip resulted in this…
I coiuld probably live off fruits and veggies, but I find myself struggling to get and stay full. I think that’s the need for protein speaking.
I’ve posted a few other times about being cleaner/greener. I talked about appreciating hormal free meat (Honeysuckle, Laura’s Lean Beef & Gold’n Plump) here and some foods and household products here. I’ll do a post soon about cleaning products and one about toiletries. Some I’ve found I like and some I do not.
My interest in more natural things was sparked a few years ago as I kept seeing articles and tv segments about the things we use and the things we put into our body. They (researchers) are trying to prove forms of cancer are caused by environmental factors (the things we use and eat being included.) So that kind of freaks me out as well.
This is totally my choice and I obviously don’t judge people based on what they eat, I just want to feel my best for me and my family 🙂
Is there natural food or organic dish you like that I should try?? I’ll try to get better at posting things we are using, trying, making and liking/not liking.
*I posted about my new love for Crystal Hot sauce here. I will probably be using it some 🙂
