I teamed up with BlogHer for a program with HomeGoods. I LOVE HomeGoods. Unfortunately, we don't have one where I live, but we do have TJ Maxx and Marshall's, which are all the same company. When I was in Dallas this week, I was able to do a little shopping at HomeGoods with Lindsey.

At HomeGoods, I found some GREAT deals. A few were on clearance. My gift card was for $25....

You first may question the "Pick Your Nose" cups.  Basically when you pick your drink up, the glass shows a nose other than yours :) A local boutique has them and I think they are pretty funny. I saw them at HomeGoods and they were about $7 cheaper. Here are the noses...

I think my favorite purchase was this fun yellow piece! It was on clearance for only $10!

I thought this green mercury glass goblet looking dish was fun too. I think it was only about $5! I thought it would be cute around the holidays.

I think the cute polka dotted tin speaks for itself. I love polka dots!

Thankful now?

I hope you all are having a good Thanksgiving week.

We had a pretty good Thanksgiving day. Along with watching some football, I managed to watch some of Elf and some of Pretty Woman. Two of my favorites. We have had a nice time with our family. We did lots of chatting and eating too much. The day went pretty good though the evening had it's ups and downs. Brent and  I have certainly been missing Cohen. I've been snuggling with BT.

Holidays can be the most wonderful time of the year, but I know they can be pretty sad as well. I know it's not just for us either. I know it's easy to think about the missing piece of your puzzle during the holidays. I've talked to lots of people this holiday season and I know everyone has their own issues. I'm just trying to stay focused on the things we do have to be grateful for. I can't say those things overshadow my sadness for Cohen not being here, but I'm trying to not dwell....like I know I could.

Brent and I are clearly missing a large part of our heart. We are thankful for this year though. We are thankful for the twelve days we got to spend with Cohen. We are thankful I was pregnant with him. We are thankful for the thought and hope we may get to see him again one day. We are thankful that our life is and will go on. We really aren't thankful Cohen isn't here with us, though we are thankful he is all healed.

I'm starting to think it is possible to have the worst year of your life and the best year of your life. I certainly hope I don't have another year as awful as this year. However, I do I hope I have another year as good as this one.

{two days old, the afternoon before his first heart surgery - 6.9.10}

I've gotten so many emails and comments from people telling me about what Cohen and our situation has taught them or made them realize. With that, brings the nervousness of how quick your life, or the life of someone you love, could end. I am so grateful that the people who have spoken to us may count their blessings more. They cherish each day with their kiddos. They may hold them tighter. I do know having witnessed what our family has gone through may bring fear too. I think people may be more paranoid about their pregnancies, they may think more often about their kids possibly dying in some form or fashion. Well, the truth is, we can, and will, all die. I'm not wanting to get a lecture on death whatsoever. I sometimes feel bad though that people live with the paranoia of "what if". I think with the blog world, it's a public journal to read the good, the bad and the ugly. If you read blogs you may be more likely to read a sad story. You may be more likely to come across a blog that deals with sick children, death, divorce, etc. You will probably also find many blogs that pertain to all things happy. While, both are realistic, I hate to think people compare situations or lives. Don't get me wrong, I think blogging it a great resource and I do think people do go through lots of similar situations.

I know we can all try to prepare for the future as best as possible, but I just want us to cherish each day. Live day-to-day and be thankful for what we have that very day and the days before.

I'm guilty too. I live in fear that I won't be able to get pregnant again. I worry that when I do,  baby #2 will also have a broken heart. I really just try not to let myself go there. Honestly, there is nothing I can really do to control either of those things. We do know how babies are made and we can only do our part in that aspect. I constantly worry about my family's health as well, but I know that's not in my control either.

I'm thankful for my marriage so much this year. Brent and I click. We have grown as a couple. We were great before but now, we are different people...and we still click...thankfully. We are able to talk about everything. We are able to make decisions. I'm thankful for my sanity. I do have good days and think to myself....how did I ever survive these 10 months? I think to myself I'm doing better than I thought I would. Then, I have days and I think that I'm doing awful. From February 11th until now, until day-to-day, our life is not what we thought it would be. I just want to vow to be thankful even through though there has been something bad. There has been the worst. I want to be thankful for all the days that I've had and not worry about the ones to come. I am already thankful for the days that will come. However, I know some of those days will be sad days because Cohen isn't here with us.

I'm not really sure where I was going with all this besides I definitely think being thankful each and every moment that you have would be ideal...though probably not always possible. Even if you don't feel like you have much to be thankful for, you do. You have something. You have your life and a lot of it is up to you how you will live it!

We have been debating on  doing some shopping for black Friday. We did just a little bit last year, but didn't go into the city (DFW)...just some small shops around town. My dad has gone out SUPER early in the past, but I don't think he is this year. Are you all going out shopping? Is their a good, specific deal you are going after??

This week.....

If you were reading my blog last year, you may remember some of my thanksgiving. It was a wonderful Thanksgiving. I was 12 weeks pregnant and felt great. I was in Dallas and then the town my mom grew up in. I met some girls whose blogs I read. You can see more about that here. I also stayed in Dallas for a night one of of my best friends (also seen in that post). This week, the travel is very similar to that.

On Monday, my week started out getting together with some girlfriends and new friends, most met from blogging. Monday, me, Jessica, Lindsey, Ashley, Sarah, Jane, Lynn & Meredith got together for wine & cheese. It was my first time to meet Ashley, Lynn, Sarah & Jane. We had so much fun chatting away. I didn't leave until 10:30PM and I was supposed to be at the airport at 7:30 the following morning. No, I hadn't packed either : /  Lindsey was also planning to come to Dallas. So, instead of flying, we made a little rode trip together. We kept each other company and did some shopping! I was gifted a HomeGoods gift card for a BlogHer program so we did a little shopping too! I will post more on that soon.

For dinner last night, Lindsey & I joined Erin from Blue Eyed Bride, Slynnro, Mojito Maven and Kate from elefantitas alegres. I had such a nice time time visiting with all the girls! I had met Erin before (last Thanksgiving), but none of the others. I've SO enjoyed meeting and getting to know bloggers.

I planned on taking some pictures both Monday and Tuesday night, but I failed. I just completely forgot to tell you the truth. I hate that I did because I clearly like documenting most events on here. What a slacker I was :(

Today, I'm heading here and I'm pretty excited :)

 Hubs will be getting off work sometime today and coming to join me. We try to spend Thanksgiving with my side of the family that we don't get to see as often. We hadn't actually planned to come this year, as we would have had a pretty new baby, but plans change :(

So honestly, I'm having a very thankful week so far. Brent and I have an extremely rough 10 months, but we are still thankful to have each other, our families, our friends, our health, and a roof over our head. We are also so thankful to have all of you who are reading. You have been an amazing support to us and we GREATLY appreciate you! I never thought this blog would turn into what it is as such a blessing. Thanks for listening, supporting.....and putting up with all my grammatical errors :)

Also, I do read a LOT of blogs, though a lot of the time I don't comment. With my job, I do lots of waiting. I wait in waiting areas, in my car, etc. So, I do a lot of blog reading on my phone. Unfortunately, my iphone and my fingers aren't always the perfect match, so leaving comments isn't easy at all when I'm on my phone. I do want to make better a better effort to leave comments more. I know they always brighten my day, so hopefully they do yours as well.

I've also been thinking about and quite thankful this week to have my friends, Kristens & Kristin. Yes, that is two girls named Kristen with an 'e' and one that is 'in'. I know that both Kristens had pretty stressful weeks with their pregnancies, but I'm praying all continues to be good! Also, my other friend, Kristin,  who is Luke's mom, found out she is expecting another baby :) Luke and Cohen are buddies in heaven...with perfect little hearts. They have several other buddies whose mommas I also love.

I'll return soon as I should be close to the internet to update you on my yummy Thanksgiving eating adventures.

5 Months

Five months ago our sweet little baby went to Heaven. I can't believe it's been five months. I probably say that every month, but I still can't believe it. It's still a roller coaster. I'm starting to believe it always will be. Some days have been a lot better. Some days have been a lot worse. Unfortunately, I expect the holidays to be a bit harder. So, that probably has something to do with it. Just the thought of Christmas without my baby who would be 6 1/2 months isn't fun. He will have an amazing Thanksgiving and Christmas, we know.

Since he is experiencing wonderful lullabies in heaven, I thought I'd post this sweet song today. Several bloggers have passed it along to me over the past few months. Thanks, ladies.

Jessica was so kind to put most everything together for Cohen's Memorial Service. She has now started a little design business, which is smart (because she is good). She created these pretty programs for the service...

 The picture and paragraph are the ones that were used in Cohen's obituaries. No, I still don't like the word. I'm still not sure I've said it aloud. Speaking of, I need to get those laminated.

I'm working on Cohen's Christmas tree, and I will post pics when I'm done :)

Dr. Oz's Fruit Facts!

I received an email a few days ago with tons of fruit information. From what the email said it's bits and pieces that Dr.Oz has mentioned about fruit. I love learning new things like this. Just thought I would share with you all!

disclaimer: I have NO idea how much of this is true or is not. Maybe I can find a doctor or nutritionist to ask about this? I'd love to know more details as well.

"We all think eating fruit means just buying fruit, cutting it up and popping it into our mouths. It's not that easy. It's important to know how and when to eat fruit.

What's the correct way to eat fruit?

DO NO NOT EAT FRUIT AFTER A MEAL! FRUIT SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

Eating fruit like that plays a major role in detoxifying your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD.
Let's say you eat two slices of bread, then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it's prevented from doing so.

In the meantime, the whole meal rots and ferments, and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach, and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

Eat your fruit on an empty stomach, or before your meal! You've heard people complain: Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc. This will not happen if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas. Hence, you bloat!

There's no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruit becomes alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruit, you have the Secret of Beauty, Longevity, Health, Energy, Happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT the concentrated juice from the cans. Don't drink juice that has been heated. Don't eat cooked fruit; you don't get the nutrients at all. You get only the taste. Cooking destroys all of the vitamins.

Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit-fast to cleanse your body. Eat fruit and drink fruit juice for just 3 days, and you will be surprised when your friends say how radiant you look!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty, and a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E and fibre. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange!

AN APPLE a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants and flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C, thereby helping to lower the risk of colon cancer, heart attack and stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits and protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

EATING 2 - 4 ORANGES a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent and dissolve kidney stones, and reduce the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. Also a key source of lycopene, the cancer-fighting oxidant. Also found in watermelon: Vitamin C and Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene, good for your eyes.

Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer!
Can you believe this? For those who like to drink cold water, this applies to you. It's nice to have a cold drink after a meal, however, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you've just consumed, which slows digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

Updates & Recaps...

First of all, thank you all for the comments trying to help my nausea. It is GONE! My doctor switched to me the extended release Metformin and I feel 100% better. I don't feel sick at all. Major blessing! I go back to the doctor the Monday after Thanksgiving. Praying the big cyst is gone. If it's not, I'll be having a procedure to remove it. Ick.  #PCOSSTINKS

 So you may remember my post a few Friday ago about girls weekend. Yes? Here we are...

No, Allison and I didn't really plan out outfits to be so similar. We call it team spirit though.. The razorbacks were playing :P

We had late nights with long talks.  We ate yummy food. We got manis and pedis. Actually, I just got my nails painted, but I loved every second of it. We went and saw Life as We Know It. It was a really good movie. However, it was way too sad. It wasn't just said in a part or two. It was sad in about 20 parts. It's probably one I should have waited a bit to see. Which, tells me I should trust my gut more often, haha. Nonetheless, I think you should watch it....when you aren't hormonal or haven't recently had a child go to heaven.

Whitney also had a birthday over the weekend. I order this cake especially for her. However, we went to dinner Saturday night and ate one of my most favorite desserts. It is AMAZING. So, the cake went home with Whitney on Sunday :) We still did the candles & gifts.

Some randoms....

The chocolate gateau is my favorite. Thanks to my mom for making the breakfast casserole and banana bread! I made the fruit ; )

That was the weekend before last. Hopefully we can get together again soon! I miss us all living in the same town.

Now for this past weekend....

Brent's brother-in-law called and was gifted concert tickets to Elton John & Leon Russell. They invited us along. We had a great view from a suite at the arena. Unfortunately, I failed miserably at taking many pictures :( I'll post the few below. I was pretty proud of myself for remembering my phone had video! So, I took two videos of Elton singing. I thought it was a great concert! I'll post one video. They are taking a while to upload..so maybe I'll do Tiny Dance another time.

B-B-B Bennie & The Jets....(fyi, you may hear an older man singing in the background my ear. He was sitting behind me).


We also worked on getting some of our Christmas decorations up this weekend. I can't wait to get them all finished. I like cozy time with Christmas decorations!

Speaking of cozy, had you tried this white chocolate latte? YUM.

Getting out of bed for Elton

No, not Elton as in my sweet doggie. Elton as in Elton John! I love me some Elton John songs. Brent texted me a bit ago and said his brother-in-law called and asked us if we wanted to join he and Brent's sister. A client gave them four tickets. The funny thing is, my mom called yesterday and said her and my dad had won tickets from a local TV station. I was a bit jealous.

Now, the getting out of bed part.  I've been pretty under the weather this week. Actually, since last Wednesday. Last night, I was in bed and sleeping by 8:30. Why? I feel like I'm going to throw up 24/7. I've not blogged much about it, but I'm back on Metformin and birth control (as of last week) for my PCOS.  I have mentioned that my cysts came back pretty hard core after delivery/pumping. In the past two months, I've had probably eight ultrasounds. My doctor is trying to help me get things under control. My last one showed a much larger cyst. So, that's why I'm on birth control (it's supposed to help that). I also started it and Metformin about a week ago. I've been unbearably nauseous since I started them. Not only am I nauseous, I have food aversions. It's awful. This past week, sickness wise, was far worse by about 100% than my entire pregnancy with Cohen. I feel awful for those of you that feel sick during your pregnancies, as I know (or I've heard) it's a lot like what I'm going through now. It's been debilitating at times.  I'm waiting to hear back from my doctor on my dosage. I was on the extended release Metformin last summer. I was also on birth control. Neither of which bothered me. Anyways, I've gotten a few emails asking so I thought I'd fill ya in. If the Metformin continues to make me so sick, I will get off of it. There are some vitamins/minerals/herbs I will try instead. Why am I doing all this? PCOS causes infertility and we do want more children.

I will chug pepto soon and probably be fine for a few hours! Or, take something else? What do you take for nausea? I asked the pharmacist and Target. He said even though Dramamine is marketed towards motion sickness, it's one of the best for nausea. 

Anyways, back to Elton...

I love Bennie and the Jets, Tiny Dancer, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, Blessed...okay, there is a lot. The man has a lot of songs. I wonder what he will sing....
