What we've been up to....

As I previously mentioned, I've not gone back to work yet. I will return a full two months after delivery because of my c-section. For a week or so I didn't get too bored but then I found myself looking for things to do. The past two weeks we've been working some at the other house so that has kept me somewhat busy. I'm also reading some, working on my list for thank you notes, watching some soap network, eating too much, etc.

I had my 6 week postpartum appointment. Actually, I guess it was about 4 weeks. Everything looked pretty good. My incision is healing nicely. I was going to start Metformin for my PCOS, but the day after my appointment I got a call that my liver enzymes were elevated. I was scheduled to have an ultrasound on my gallbladder a few days later. I guess gallbladder issues are pretty common during/after pregnancy. Everything checked out okay. I'm now scheduled to have my liver enzymes tested again in 3 months. I won't start Metformin until they show to be okay. My doctor thinks that more than likely the enzymes are elevated from the surgery and pain. I never really thought of a c-section as a major surgery until I had one. I've had lots of emails about PCOS and endometriosis. You can read more about mine here.

Anyone had these liver enzyme issues post pregnancy?

Oh, I must not leave out the part where a lady FOLLOWED me to the doctor's office because she thought I followed her too closely when she was going 9 mph in our neighborhood. I was behind her for about 45 seconds until we turned on the main street and I had my own lane. I only followed a LITTLE closely in the neighborhood because that's as slow as my car would go without stopping all together. She honked at me when I got in my own lane and me then followed me. She proceeded to pull up behind me in the parking lot at my doctor's office. She was SO rude and said, "I just had to come see what you were in such a rush to get to". I didn't use any curse words though I let her know I was currently at my doctor and why. She said "yeah, RIGHT" and drove off. The nerve!!! What if she were to have had a gun or what if I would have had a gun? Well, not that I would have had one, but what I were to have been someone else. Regardless, you just DON'T do that!! I know as soon as Brent sees which house her car belongs to, he will be leaving a note on her door.

For those of you who emailed me in regards to my cabbage tweet, I think it helped me! It took a few days but even so, there was major decrease.

In my last post I discussed my sister in law taking me for some retail therapy. My therapy came in pretty cosmetic style....

I love nail polish. You would think as many bottles as I have, I would wear it non-stop. I don't always. But I do like to have it, and options at that, when I want to wear it.
{All Essie ~ Aruba Blue, Splash of Grenadine, Chinchilly, Turquoise & Caicos, Lapis of Luxury, One of a Kind} I saw a few of these looking pretty on Summer's hand and sure enough, I looked them up when I was in the store. What did we do before iphones!?!

This blush caught my eye and I thought it was pretty. I don't like glitter/shimmer all the time but I do like this.
{Lorac ~ Flaunt}

thanks sister :)

Some of my besties gave me a goodie package before Cohen was born. Katie's mom gave us some gift cards to some great restaurants. Brent and I have enjoyed getting out of the house and dinning out, with no expense! Thanks, Cookie!
Before Olive Garden on Brent's birthday {7.12}......
Speaking of eating..... Since we are in between houses, we don't have a kitchen with cooking supplies, utensils, plates, etc. When we got home from Dallas, one of our good friends set up a week or so of food deliveries from other friends and family. On top of that, she set up a gift account at a local delivery place that picks up from restaurants all over town and deliveries right to your door. People made donations to that account. It has been SO nice not wondering what we are going to eat or feeling like I should have a meal cooking. We have such amazing friends and family!

I'm reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett and so far I really like it. I read lots of blog posts and tweets about it so I thought I would give it a try. I've not read a book in so long. Hopefully things slow down a little bit so I can read more.

If you have any must reads, feel free to let me know or link me to your book post!

I've been sorting through pictures of Cohen that my mother-in-law took. I still always love looking at them no matter how hard it sometimes is. I love looking at his little nose from the side and his little face the second he was born. I'm still planning to do more posts.

We've gotten some AMAZING emails, cards and goodies in the mail. I got a card with some shells a sweet reader picked up on the beach when thinking of us. Quite ironic that Brent and I helped to baptize Cohen using shells. I'm going to post some pictures of the goodies soon.

I'm ready for this week to be over. It's had too many ups and downs already. However, I am excited for the weekend. We have a few fun things to do. My sister-in-lawish, Mandy, has a baby shower. I couldn't find a picture of us on this computer or I would post it. I'll snap one at the shower. She is a super cute pregnant gal. We also have two 1st birthday parties. We aren't going to make it to them. There are a few scheduling conflicts, but honestly they are for sweet little boys turning a year old. Brent and I just aren't sure our hearts are ready for that. Both families are good friends and we know they will understand. We are attending a Baptism for Penny and it will be wonderful. We had so much fun last year at Penny's sister, Lucy's Baptism. The after party theme last year was Mad Hatter and a certain american idol also joined us. Here is a picture of Jessica and I from Lucy's Baptism after party....

One of my bf's, Whitney, is hosting a giveaway with CSN. Click here to enter :)

Since it is after 3am now, I'll attempt once more to go to bed. I hope you're having a good week.

I hope you're getting some sleep.
You are such a strong woman. I know at times that can't be easy.
I'm so thankful for all of the sweet things that your friends are doing.
If your one friend could share about how to donate to the local delivery place that would be fantastic!
Good luck with the liver enyzmes. C-sections are major surgery. Not to mention with all of Cohen's surgeries and illnesses after birth and his passing put an immeasurable amount of stress on your body.
Thinking of you often.
Also, I couldn't do comments on your last entry but google the blog Katie's Keepers...I think it's something like wwww.therowefamily.blogspot.com. Katie and Jason lost their sweet Reese almost a year ago. She might be somebody that might provide insight (even just reading her blog) about some of the questions you have about when to try again, what to say to people, etc.

I had my gall bladder taken out after having very high enzymes and a year of gall bladder attacks, which are the most horrible pain! My sister and my bestie both had elevated liver enzymes right after their pregnancies and both had to have their gall bladders removed.

On a lighter note, I love nail polish too! I just picked up two new shades today... YAY!

New to comment here! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all your heartfelt posts, and my heart goes out to you. I lost my sweet baby boy on 2/21/10, my due date was 7/21/10. I still don't know what to say to people or how to fully deal with it all, but I know each day gets lighter, yet not a second goes by without thinking of him.... The right words can never be spoken but I must say you're a great MOTHER, and seem like such a wonderful person as well. It's good to hear you and the hubs are spending a lot of time together!.. Take Care...

I pray for you and your family every day - you're very brave although I'm sure you don't feel it...you definitely are. I hope each day gets a little bit "easier" for you!

I have followed your blog for some time now and prayed for your sweet baby and family.
I had my gallbladder out two weeks after my second baby (via c-section) and AFTER my gallbladder was out I still had high liver enzymes because of both surgeries.

I was wondering about your house situation since I thought I remembered that you had sold your house. I hope things get settled soon on the house front. Take good care of yourself.

The help is a fantastic book. I'm reading 'la bella lingua' right now which is all about Italy and making me want to go to Rome and eat lots of Pizza!

We are continuing to keep you all in our prayers here in Virginia.

Ok, first of all I LOVED The Help! Can't wait to hear what you think of it...

You look SO gorgeous in the blue top for Brent's birthday! Love that shirt and your hair is stunning as usual!!

I can't believe that lady followed you... what a psycho!

Lots of love headed your way!

I love all of the nail polish colors you picked out! I need some new colors so you will have to let me know your fave. You look AMAZING in blue! I love that shirt.

I cannot believe that lady followed you. That is ridic!!

Ashley said...

First of all, that lady who followed you is crazy! That is scary. For both of you really. You're right, what if you were someone else who was dangerous, or what if she was dangerous. Wow, you have to wonder what kind of a person she is to follow you and confront you over something ridiculous like that. I hope Brent does leave a note!

You guys are so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family that have been able to do these things for you guys. That is so thoughtful and I'm glad that you and Brent have them.

Also, I love those nail polish colors, and Lorac makeup is awesome, the eyeshadows are great too. You look great in the pic with Elton, love that color!

Good grief on the psycho car lady! (Don't you just love having neighbors like THAT to deal with!) One time a motorcyclist thought I cut him off and came up next to me at a stop light and was cussing at me and screaming at me. I thought the same thing, too, "what if he had a gun?" People are crazy!

I am a new reader and just want you to know how proud I am of you in having the courage to write the things you do. I almost hold my breath when I read your daily posts. I cannot begin to imagine the ups and downs you must face every day, in the different situations you find yourself in. But your courage is inspiring and I know you are touching the lives of so many.

I am praying for the continued healing of your heart.

Megan, you are amazing. Your post below this one had me in tears. You are so strong. Cohen was so lucky to have you and Brent as parents, and your future children will be too. You are an amazing mother. You are just wonderful!

Take it easy, enjoy time with your friends and family. :)

Hi Megan, I have been following your blog since early this winter. I'm mostly just listening but want you to know that I admire you strength, sharing your feelings and also think you don't owe anyone any explanations. It is private between you, your husband, family and God. Work through this time as best you can, lean on others and take it literally one hour and day at a time.

I freaking LOVE every single nailpolish that you bought.

You just keep taking it slowly until you go back to work and keep hugging that husband for support. Nobody can comfort us like the arms of our hubbys. : )

The nerve of that lady! My husband and I also got followed once by an older lady. I can't believe what some people will do!

I love your new nail polish colors! I'm currently obsessed with a mint color. I hope your week gets better. Sending you lots of (((hugs)))

hey darlin.

I am happy you are healing more and more each day. I pray you feel better and the physical and emotional pain slowly fades.

And i think you follow your heart. You try when YOU and Brent want to. It's about you and what makes you comfortable.

I am so happy you liked all of the nail colors. I love Lapis of Luxury. Not sure why. Oh and Chinchilly.

PS - You look good in everything. You, honestly, do.

Summer {Bisfor...} said...

oh and i did not mean to breeze over that lady but my goodness. baffling. you poor thing. that was the last thing you would ever need to deal with. were you alone? god and your angel are watching her. and brent needs to knock on her door and tell her where to shove it.

Sarah said...

The Help is soooooo good! I am not a huge reader...(I get bored pretty easily)....but this was awesome! I could not put it down!

Enjoy! I hear they are actually making it a movie!

I've obviously never given birth, but I had elevated liver enzyme levels at one of my many appointments last year. The Dr. said that sometimes they can be elevated from taking pain meds within the past month or so. I had been sick and taking some otc stuff. She just told me to try and take as little cold/pain medicine (tylenol and all included) for the next month or so, and at my next appointment they were fine. I'm no professional, but I'm thinking if otc cold medicine can make them elevated it sure seems like pain medicine during/after a c-section could surely do it!
You look absolutely gorgeous in that picture from Brent's birthday!
Still thinking of you. Love!

I hope you have a wonderful relaxing weekend! I loved the Help - you won't be able to put it down once you get into it! I cannot recommend Mennonite in a Little Black Dress enough - it's a memoir but reads like fiction and the author is wonderfully talented at analyzing / dealing with a very, very difficult time in her life with grace, thoughtfulness (in the true sense of the word) as well as humor.

I am not a reader. (I know. That is not good, but I just can't get into many books.) The first book I have started and FINISHED in a very ,long time is "I Will Carry You" by Angie Smith. I noticed that you already read her blog, but I wasn't sure if you have read the book. I have not lost a child, and it was helpful to me. I would also suggest going back in Angie's blog and re-reading the posts that follow after she lost Audrey. I remember her blogging about some of the same situations you have been having a hard time with. Everyone is different, but the way she handled the same things you are going through might help you decide what to say or how you want to handle the tough questions. I hope this helps! Praying for you!

I'm reading The Help right now too! I'm not too far along though. I'm a little agrivated because as soon as I am getting into a character and want to learn more the chapter ends and they move onto someone else. I'm hoping to get to the pool tomorrow to read some more. I read Heart of the Matter recently by Emily Giffin. It was okay, I have a review of it on my blog.
Stay Strong, you're an inspiration.

I too just recently picked up a copy of The Help on our flight home from vacation. I did a review of a book called- The Bright Forever on my blog but it might be too sad to read now. Add it to your future list. Im also reading Not Without Hope which is by the only surviving man from that fishing disaster with the NFL players- also sad but in a totally different way. Wish I had more upbeat suggestions!!!

Always thinking of you and Brent =)

Hi Megan,

Praying lots for you all. I love reading your posts and I am glad you are writing!

I just read "The Help" and adored it - cried twice! Another one I recently read was "The Glass Castle"; it was well-written but really intense.

Thank you so much for letting us know what you've been up to - hope the nail polish and nice dinners are letting you relax some :)

Hope your move is going well!

One of my friends told me about your blog and I just want to say how sorry I am. My son passed away 3 months ago after living for 25 days in the nicu. I feel like I can relate to your experience. I want you to know that if you ever want to talk to someone who can somewhat understand what you are going through, I am always avaliable. You can send me an email or call. So far, I have found its been nice to have someone to email who is in a similar situation. And for me it has been easier to talk to people going through this right now, instead of years ago.

I am going through this every day. I have to tell people all the time and its not fun, I know. I know there is nothing I can say to make it better, just know that you can talk to someone who understands. I hope you have a good weekend and try to get some sleep. Take care,

I also had elevated liver enzymes after my pregnancy. My daughter was in the NICU for a month and I had horrible pains. I dismissed it for csection pains, moving too much too soon and hospital food the entire time.. Add in the stress and it was easy to convince myself that was the issue. I told my OB the night before my daughter was released and they tested me right away (appendix was already taken out). My levels were elevated for months, and I was retested every 2-4 weeks for 3 months before they started to hit a normal range. Good luck! I was thankful I didn't need surgery again. Prayers are with you.

I can't believe that lady followed you to the doctor's office. Wow, people really have too much free time. How rude. I'm sorry that happened!

Hey, I might be in Oklahoma City in August for work. Do you live in OC or Tulsa? Sorry, I'm forgetting everything these days. If you're feeling up to it, I'd love to meet for dinner or dessert.

I can't believe that lady that followed you! Even if you were following her too closely (which I doubt) it was ridiculous that she followed you all the way to your doctors appointment!

I'm glad you got some retail therapy in and that everyone is taking such good care of you guys :)

I added The Help to my book list!
