Cohen is out of surgery! We are in the waiting room waiting to go back and see him.
Here is the little timeline I created as he was in surgeries. The nurse was so good to all us with updates and praise God for our surgeon and the team helping him!
3:15 They let us go from the 3rd floor to the second floor on the doctor’s elevator with him in his machine, the doctors and our nurse. Not so pleasant.
3:45 They called to let us know he was back in surgery and all the doctors were there.
4:45 They called and said that he was taking well to the medication and all prepped.
5:45 They called and said he was on the bypass machine and things were going fine.
6:30 They called to say the TAPVR repair was almost done and almost on to the BT Shunt! No complications so far! He is tolerating the bypass machine well. Keep praying 🙂
7:30 They called and said both procedures were done and he was doing great. They said he tinkled on the nurse 🙂 They said they would keep him back in the operating room for a bit in order to make sure there was no bleeding and such.
8:30. They called to tell us he was doing great and they would be bringing him out of operating room into recovery in about 30 minutes!! They let us know the surgeon would be meeting with us shortly.
8:45 The surgeon, Dr. Forbess, came to meet with us. He let us know Cohen is a fighter and did great! He told us he clipped and tied the extra arteries that were causing excessive blood flow. He was able to put the shunt in and monitor to make sure it was working. Dr. Forbess told us that the days after can be very critical and tonight there is probably a 5 to 10 percent chance that he would have to come back during the night to handle some blood flow situations.
9:00 They called our names to come meet Cohen in the hallway! His surgery crew pushed him out in of the operating room his super bed and he was just precious! It wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. They did have him covered up pretty good, but his chest is still open. They leave the chest open for the pressure and it will be closed in the next few days. You can literally see his insides and his little heart beating. IT IS CRAZY! Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll have some pictures in if you want to see 😉 His little face has some bruising but I can’t wait to see him. I REALLY look forward to the day when I can hold him again.
Me, Brent, my parents, brother and Brent’s mom are going to stay up here for the night. Cohen will have lights and a full crew on him all night in his ICU room so we probably won’t stay in the room with him but we can be back there as we please:)
I’m so thrilled!! It’s been a crazy, amazing and scary 3 days! So many prayers have been answered with Cohen simply getting through the surgery. Of course I will still be nervous until ALL the surgeries are over but I’ll try to live day by day and just pray Cohen does good and heals day by day 🙂
Thank you to everyone reading for being SO supportive and saying so many prayers for our sweet baby!!
I will keep you all update to date, of course, on how he is doing. They have tried to prepare us that recovery is hard. So, we are just praying the recovery goes as well as the surgery.
Here is the BEAUTIFUL slideshow my mother-in-law made of the pictures she took of the delivery 🙂
