So while packing up closets, drawers and cabinets, I decided I had a lot of stuff I didn't want! I thought it would be a good idea to have a sale. I had several boxes and several pieces of furniture. As far as the 30 pairs of shoes, I decided to take them to a consignment store. I thought about blogging them but I didn't know how shipping works and honestly, I just am so busy I thought dropping them off at a consignment store would be a bit easier. There are a few other pieces of furniture I don't want, but they probably need to stay in the house until it sells. An example would be our bar stools, the island looks better with bar stools. ANYWAYS, back to the 6:15am part....
I thought it would be wise to put my sale in the paper and the hubs put out a few signs about 10:30 last night. The newspaper sign said 7am. The signs did not have a time. Well, last night I attempted to sleep in the recliner. I made it from about 12 till 4. At 4 I woke up and moved to the bed. At 6, my alarm clock went off. I was wondering why my alarm would be set for 6am. I got back in bed but never really fell back to sleep. About 6:10 it occurred to me, oh yes, I'm having a garage sale. I get up wash my face and begin to brush my teeth. At 6:15 the doorbell rings! WHAT?! Who is that? I tell Brent to hop up and answer because I'm not dressed. He starting yelling (quietly) about how rude it was someone was ringing the bell. I told him to be nice. He opens the door and a lady starts talking a million miles a minute saying she wanted to know what we had and how much the furniture was. I told him to let her know we open at 7. She asked him if she could take a look earlier because she had to get to work. She also said she thought we were up getting ready to go because the lights were on. Well, it was still COMPLETELY dark outside and the outside lights we keep on every night. There was a lamp on in the kitchen she may have could seen from the door. Well, the lights are on because we live here.
So we do a few things then opened the garage door. The lady and her husband jump out of a JUMBO sized van (one of those 3 or 4 seaters, though nice) and started jogging into the garage! WHAT IS GOING ON!? It made me nervous. They began asking prices, grabbing things off the tables and digging through the boxes I had yet to unload on the table. GEESH! Talk about serious shoppers!!
Sorry that was kind of a long story but hubs and I are STILL in shock! People immediately started swarming (yes, in the dark with their flash lights).
Hubs pulled out the tables and got the patio furniture around from the deck. Well, he was pretty much still asleep because he sold the patio set for $15!! I had 4 or 5 sets of flutes/wine glasses and he sold each set for $3! I immediately started ragging on him for "giving" stuff away! Needless to say, we sold a lot very quickly! Two of my girlfriends arrived to help so hubs could go to work. The day went pretty good. People stopped coming about 3:15. It was a windy day and we were constantly picking up flying objects. It was a nice day as well, reaching about 70 degrees. Tomorrow? SNOW! We will see!
Okay, on to the thief. One of my friends and I were sitting chatting waiting on customers and my other friend was picking up lunch. A girl comes up and carrying a purse with a notebook in hand and a badge around her neck. She was a younger girl. She said she is with so and so. It was something to do with helping cancer patients. I didn't recognize the name from being any place around town. She said she was selling something and it was to benefit cancer patients. Well, I didn't get all the info because I've purchased things from people before and they never arrived so, I learned my lesson. I really haven't had anyone ring our bell in a while soliciting something. About 15 minutes a later a lady pulls up very quickly and hops out of her car. She asks us if a girl came by selling something. We told her yes. She asked if we got the name of the company. I told her I didn't listen because I know I wouldn't believe her and I just thought it was rude because I knew it wasn't honest. Well, this lady had just gotten home from the store and had carried in 6 Easter baskets in her house for her grandchildren. She left her purse in the car. She said the bell rang and she looked out and saw the girl. She said she ran to the kitchen to grab her keys so she could greet the girl, get her purse and lock her car. Well, by the time she got to the door, the girl was gone and SO was her purse!!! Is that not TERRIBLE!? My intuition was right and I felt awful for the lady!
Here are a few pics my friend Jen snapped.. Yes, Elton had to join for a while. Yes, I did have hubs bring our comfy dinning chairs out so we could sit in them. And Yes, know I look rough! It was early!
:)
Elton has to be under a blanket if there is one around!
The garage sale did pretty good. I doubt I'll get to have the sale tomorrow if it is supposed to be real cold. Thanks for listening to my rants! haha.
Our friends Judd and Kristen are cooking dinner for us tonight so that will be nice. This weekend we will be working on our house! My dad is coming in town to help us so that will be nice. Once the house is sold, maybe I'll have a chance to go through these.....
Yes, that's what you think it is. A TON of magazines! I'm SO behind on magazines! I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of them without keeping the good articles or recipes in them! I have a book that I keep things in for reference. I'll share that soon! Once I go through the magzines, I put them in recycle dumpster at a local school.
My thank you notes WILL come before the magazines. I need to be more prompt with them than I have been lately.
Oh, my computer guy is coming by to pick up our computer again, so I might be MIA for a few days :( We are still having problems with it and saying prayers it will last us a while longer. Of course the one thing I use quite a bit, iPhoto, is acting up.
Hope you all have a good weekend :)

Oh my gosh. My grandma is one of those people who will go knock if a garage sale isn't open yet! She usually waits till the sun is up, though :) Good luck this weekend!
That story is hilarious!
My mom is the same way about magazines...she'll keep them until she's gone through them all and found why she was saving it in the first place!
This was hilarious to read, after I just spent the entire day prepping for our garage sale! Im having one tomorrow... yikes!
Ugh, those early birds for garage sales... they ALWAYS say that they have to go to work to get you to start early. On my 2nd sale in a row, we didn't answer the door or ANYTHING until 7 AM. Those people are INSANE!
But it's nice to get a bit of cash for some old stuff...
Hope the snow stays far away from us here in Indiana!!
I forgot you were having that today. I can't believe we are supposed to have snow tomorrow. So crazy!
omg that is RIDICULOUS!! how terrible and dishonest. glad your yardsale went so well (even if it was a bit overzealous, haha)...now the real question, was it a lucrative way to spend your time? i know it's rude but spill the deets!!
WOW! Those garage sale people are crazy!! It's good to hear that you made some money though!
Wow they were some serious shoppers!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you did good!!
How awful for the waomn that got her purse stolen!
Love your dining room chairs, you're too cute!
Wow, two crazy stories. At least your yard sale did well!
Love the magazine stack, and for showing it off and keeping it real. I think there may be a little hoarder in us all. You don't have a bunch of cats and wear bright colored Mumu's do you?
We had a garage sale when I was little, and my mom accidentally left the garage door open and went to get coffee. During those 20 minutes, we had tons of people ring the doorbell asking where we were and one person just took the stuff she wanted and left a check. Garage sale people are crazy.
Love your blog! I just found it recently!
Those serious garage sale people are crazy! That's crazy about that thief girl though! I'm the same way with magazines, I just bought some big boxes from Ikea that I stash them in until I go through them. ;)
Crazy story. So glad that girl didn't steal anything from you. Sad about that woman's purse.
You look SO cute. I love the belly!
The garage sale people can be crazy! They get really serious about their sales.
Wow! Crazy people just marching in your garage and going nuts...that's insane. And that's terrible about the purse! Ugh. :(
You make my magazine problem look like NOTHING. ;)
Wow. People are crazy!! & that is a ton of magazines, hah!
What an insane morning - but it's good you sold most of your stuff!!!
I would not have been so nice if someone had rang my doorbell that early, some people just don't get it!
And the girl, the thief, I hope they get her, I can't stand soliciating! I sounded so corny, I hope they get her, ha ha!!! Hope you have a great weekend and so glad you were able to sell some things!

That's crazy about the people knocking and the purse stealer. I hope they caught her!
For some reason garage sales seem to bring out all the crazies! Hopefully you made some good money!
I'm cracking up... I've always loved hosting a garage sale. The people that show up early and the people that RUN are so funny!
Megan, you might need a magazine intervention. Seriously, I thought I was bad!!
And I would have killed that lady for knocking on my door that early. Don't she know there's a pregnant woman inside?!?
