Menopause will come 17 days before I turn 25....

So, things just keep getting better and better (sarcasm, haha). I'm guessing your jaw dropped when you read this name of this post, as mine did when the doctor told Brent and I last Friday at my post op appointment. The doctor is so far pleased with my recovery from the surgery. While in surgery, he found endometriosis. This disease is kind of a lot to explain so by clicking here, you can find out more about it with all the detailed facts. Dr.Bundren told us that out of 4 stages, 4 being the worst, he diagnosed me at stage 2. He was able to laser off what he could.

To treat the endometriosis, the doctor recommended putting me on Lupron Depot therapy. This is a shot that I will take for six months. Here is it's website. Once on it, you can click endometriosis to put the two together. Dr.Bundren told me as soon as he gave me the first shot my reproductive system would shut down, essentially causing menopause. Of course the website doesn't say "menopause" because that is a scary word..but just read the symptoms! This shot provides a rigorous treatment for the endo. They said the main side effects of endo are infertility, pelvic pain & pain during sexual intercourse. I've only experienced the somewhat infertility out of these symptoms (it has helped contribute to the cysts). I do know people that have the endo pain and it is quite possibly the worst sounding thing ever. Brent and I both agreed to go ahead with the shots. We actually even agreed before they called to let us know that insurance WOULD pay 100% of the $700.00 PER shot. Ridiculous huh?

The doctor said he has had people get pregnant after the 6th shot, the 6th month. He said he even had people deliver within the year from the first shot. However, I still have the cysts and uterus to be concerned with. The doctor told us that this would greatly help minimize the cysts as well. So it would be helping them at the same time as repairing the endo. He said he would put me on Metformin since the reproductive system is insulin resistant, mine away. This will help break down the carbs and sugar as well as keep the weight off that the shot has been known to add. I will also have to slow down on eating carbs and sugar to help! I will go on birth control to help heal the uterus but without the fake period. I am not sure if this is during the six months or after the 6th month. I think it is determinded by how I'm doing each month.

After the 6th month, if I am ovulating on my on and have good x-rays he said it would be good to start trying soon. If I'm not ovulating on my on, he will put me on Clomid. I'm not sure the website for it but that is one. It is the first step fertility pill.

So this is fun huh? Haha. We are staying optimistic..but I've been having a few more WTF breakdown moments! It is just kind of a LOT on my plate..probably our plate since Brent will have a 25 year old menopausal female on his hands, haha.

hugs and kisses - Megan

Wow! That is a LOT to deal with! I do remember some patients at a pharmacy I worked at in school being on metformin and/or clomid. They got results (babies), and I hope will too! Emily
